Athar Khan is a highly qualified professional with M.Eng. and Ph. D., in Environmental Engineering with an extensive range of certifications including QISP, CPSWQ, and QSP/QSD. Khan’s career and expertise spans several decades in which he has made significant contributions in water quality management, waste management, environmental protection, water resources management, waste treatment and disposal.

Throughout his career, Khan has held various roles of responsibility. From 1980 to 2002, he served as a Water Resources Control Engineer at Cal-EPA, focusing on water quality protection, pollution prevention, and cleanup projects. During his tenure at Sharjah Municipality, U.A.E., from 2006 to 2013, he worked as an Environmental Advisor, overseeing comprehensive waste management projects, including landfill operations, waste treatment, and recycling programs. His ability to manage complex projects involving human resources, equipment, and infrastructure was evident in his roles, where he executed projects from conception to completion.

Khan’s teaching experience is equally impressive, with over 40 years of combined professional and educational expertise. He taught diverse environmental courses at various institutions, such as UCLA, UCRiverside, University of Loma Linda-School of Public Health, Women University of Sharjah, U.A.E, Irvine Valley College, Chaffey College and Mt. San Jacinto College. He covered subjects that included hazardous waste treatment, pollution prevention, and groundwater monitoring. Khan’s contributions extended to curriculum development and co-authoring technical documents and research reports.

Khan is also an effective communicator and problem solver, Khan’s adaptable nature and ‘can do’ attitude have driven his success. He resides in Riverside, California, with a passion for travel, reading, swimming, and history.
